It is in our interest to protect, restore and sustain these rivers and the watershed as a whole for all times. The other major river systems in China – the Yellow and Yangtze rivers – suffer from severe pollution and over-use. The threats facing the Pearl River, although serious, are of a lower order of magnitude by comparison. It is thus incumbent upon the south to ensure that the key source of life is much better managed…
